About my coaching

Scope

  • Intro to trails.

Learn what makes trail running different from road running, strength training techniques to prepare you for trail, and tips on how to run trails (cadence, downhill running, using poles, when to hike, dealing with mud and ice, and more!). This sport is more of a art than a science: I’ll do my best to de-mystify the art by teaching some of the basic concepts behind trail running.

  • Training plan design.

Whether you’re training for a 10k or 50M, I’m here to help you design a plan backed by the latest research of the sport to help you reach your goals while working around your unique schedule and needs. I’ll provide a template for you to track your progress too! Included in your plan with be guides for integrating cross-training and speed work as it suits you. My training plans also include tactics for heat acclimation, tapering, and planning to run at altitude.

  • Nutrition & hydration.

Learn what it takes for fuel for you races, when you should eat, how much you should eat, how much you should drink, how to plan electrolyte consumption, fueling options, and more.

  • Race day prep.

From selecting a race to planning for the big-day, I’ll be here for you every step of the way! What should you pack in a drop bag? What do you do if you get a massive blister? How should you dress and layer,? What should you carry on you? How can you prepare for race-day fueling and hydration? We’ll get you ready for your big-day!

  • Gear reccomendations.

Shoes, hydration packs, socks, poles, watches - gear for trail running can be a hot mess! I’m happy to provide suggestions based on gear I know works (after a lot of testing things myself)

  • Local connections.

If you’re in need of a good physiotherapist, sports massage therapist, dry needling, sports doctor, etc. I’ve found the best around that work specifically with runners. I’m happy to provide referrals to my good friends that have helped me overcome injuries and run healthy. Looking for a group to run with? I can also point you to a few sold groups to join.

  • What I don't do.

While I am an UESCA Certified Ultrarunning Coach, the buck stops there! I’m not able to diagnose or treat injuries, but I’d be happy to refer you to a qualified doctor or physiotherapist that can help with any issues that crop up in your training.

Some logistics

Trail running is my passion. I’d be happy to work with you and support your goals under a “pay what you can/want” model. The scope of my services is completely flexible. If you just want help building a training plan, I’m happy to do that, or if you’d like to learn a little more about the sport, I can do that too! My goal is to share the joy of trail running with anybody who’s interested. While I live in the Akron, Ohio area I’m very open to working with clients virtually as well.

How it works: We’ll start by getting to know each other so I can learn what your goals are and define the scope of coaching from there. That includes filling out intake forms and meeting (either in person or virtually) and learning what coaching approach works best for your style. After that, I’ll provide weekly check-ins, training plans templates, training plan adjustments, and am available to answer any and all questions along the way!

My goal in coaching is to make you feel empowered to conquer your goals, to go confidently into your races, and find joy on the trails
